Sheltered plants grow slower than non sheltered plants. I think it's even as much four times slower? At least when it comes to quality increase, but it may extend to everything. It's been some time since I played a family that has a greenhouse though.
Anyway, I always put the plants that are in season outdoors. They're more profitable that way.
