Get to Work advice?

I would suggest to get the Satilight Dish for all your home lots so you can prevent Alien Abductions. Also, avoid the Scientist Career & Alien's Night Out Parties. As well as, delete your random sims regularly.

About the stores, you can download from the gallery both to be owned by your sim or by others. To be owned by you is authomatic but to be owned by others, so that your sim can go shopping, you need first to play with a household and buy the retail. Only after it has an owner, it will be open for your sim to go shopping.

I have never come across aliens or had a sim abducted. I love the science career but have never reached the top yet, so it's quite safe to play a fair few of the levels. I think my highest sim is around level 7 at the moment.

I do avoid alien nights at the bar though. But if you accidentally stumble into a bar on alien night you can delete the generated aliens from household management.

I have made/downloaded a number of shops that can be used without ownership. They just need to have the items set for sale, so if you are making them yourself you do need to have a test sim buy the store to set the items for sale. Then you can save the lot to your library and place it in any of your games and it will work for your sims to go and make purchases.

I was also hesitant about the pack due to aliens. I have only run across one alien that I am aware of, and she was disguised. If they are about in my games, they look like all the other townies, and I have never interacted with one in a way that revealed they were an alien. I have never had a sim abducted. I will say that I haven't played the scientist career.

I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with aliens either, but I haven't been bothered by the alien aspect at all. I've never had a sim abducted, but I am a rotational player and have not progressed past about level 4 or so of the scientist career with any sims either. I haven't had any aliens just appearing in my game, other than alien night at the bar, and I just decided that was more of a costume convention thing, so it didn't bother me. You could just avoid that altogether. I think you can go ahead and enjoy the pack for the retail fun without having to worry much about aliens.

There is no 100% protection against abductions, not even with the satellite dish. And being in the science career only improves the odds of getting abducted, but it can also happen to sims that never interacted with anything remotely alien.

Should that happen to you, here is a handy trick: You will notice your sim walking outside and the queue will say "investigate strange light". Now hit pause, enter testingcheats true and then shift-click on your sim. Select Resetsim and the sim will not get abducted. I'm not sure about the timing - I reseted my sim I didn't want to get taken when he looked upwards (already engulfed in the glowing ray), but any time earlier should work, too.

But most of the shops I use are downloaded from others. I think I only shared my bakery and flower store.

Aliens are just colorful humans with a strange voice and a couple of extra powers. I would just go through your non-played sim bin and delete them. I am not sure about the alien abductions. I have only had one sim get abducted. I don't know if they can be completely stopped. The retail side of things makes it worth it though.

sounds strange to me that aliens are not well liked... lol i loved playing with strangetown in the sims 2, which had a bunch of aliens. even have an alien family. Anyways, good to know that there are ways to stop these things! and maybe Get to work should be my next EP.
