Get to Work. I love the idea of active careers and hope Maxis does more with it.
I don't like the aliens and don't play the GP for this reason, but I assume when supernaturals come out or a mod will eventually disallow auto spawning of alien townies. I do not want aliens in my game unless I'm making a story around them for the science career. I've had my knowledge sims abducted in TS2 occasionally and it makes for a fun side story, but there are no aliens running around in my TS2 towns. I want the same for TS4... I'd prefer my knowledge sims to visit the Sixambar cloneplanet rather than find out the person they are dating is an alien
Get Together sounds like they are trying to patch the core game play. Nothing new... and it sucks that you have to pay to make the game fun. Won't even consider buying it until toddlers arrive and a decent generations game is released.
Am I missing something? Because all expansion packs are basically pay to expand your gameplay (AKA fun)
I think I understand what @nanashi-sims is getting at, because I feel much the same way. I don't think paying to make the game fun is the same as paying to expand gameplay.
It's like this for me. Sims 2 is like my favorite ice cream place, the one that has a multitude of toppings. The Sims 2 base game is the ice cream itself, delicious and enjoyable on its own. The stuff packs and expansion packs are my favorite toppings. They add to what is already enjoyable and enhance the fun. So in that case, I have no issues paying to expand my gameplay because the basic enjoyment is there to begin with.
The Sims 4 has been not as enjoyable for me. The base game was as if I received an ice cream with missing ingredients. It sort of tastes acceptable but at the same time the flavor is off and it detracts from the enjoyment. I feel like I'm still waiting for some of those ingredients. I want to enjoy the ice cream, but it just doesn't taste as good as it did before. Get To Work felt like it was advertised as a chocolate chip topping, but tastes more like poorly made carob chips to me (perhaps carob tastes better now, but when I first tried it 20+ years ago it was a huge disappointment). Get Together is a much tastier topping, but I'm still waiting on the missing ingredients in the ice cream for that fully enjoyable experience. Does that make sense?
I also wanted to point out that I don't mind having to do something to get my sims to advance in Get To Work, I just wish there was more freedom in our choices. Like instead of a boring list, a pool of activities that we can choose from. Like the Science career for example. If we could choose from socializing with coworkers one day, building the rocket the next, etc. and it all contributed to the performance that would be nice. It's the "check off the items on this list" that gets on my nerves.
