GT gets my vote if you like playing with families. Apartments in CL can end up cramped if you play with larger households. And it's hard to beat the club system, which can give you in-game control over townies as well as your own Sims if you really want to get into it. I've made Sims and builds based around the club system, lol.
CL is good if you're playing single Sims or couples, or you like to take your Sims out on the town a lot. It's by no means a bad pack, and you probably wouldn't regret having it. But I just feel like you'd get more out of GT if you can only get one or the other. There are some nice wood floors in CL (due to being used as basketball courts) though. CL offers a few interactive careers as well that might interest you. Politician, Social Media, and something else I can't remember off the top of my head.
