I've never been into get together, it just seems to be all about nightclubs and partying which just isn't my thing, I don't really see it as a pack for family play. I'd suggest cats and dogs if you're a family player, Brindleton Bay is a great world for families and with the addition to add pets, I haven't had any bugs with the pets .
The club system is way underrated. I've used clubs to have my Sim kids meet up to play at the parks so they have more opportunity to form friendships. I've also used it to do things with my adult family members. For example in one save I had a pair of siblings in an apartment in San Myshuno. Eventually both got married, but I put them and their spouses in a club, Sibling Revelry, so they could easily go out to dinner or bowling (since I have Bowling Night Stuff) and other adult activities. I put their children in a club, Cousins & Such, for them to meet up and play at each other's houses or at the park. I've done chess clubs for my Sims to help build their Logic skill (or Mental skill for my Whiz kids). Workout groups for my athletes in training. I'm considering a Criminal club for my potential tough guys/gals; have a hangout for them in the basement of my bar that has the Mean Vibe. Clubs are only limited by content owned and your imagination.
Get Together is a great pack for family play not just with the clubs but wiht some of the objects added. I try to find a space for a Don't Wake The Llama table in all my houses so the family can have the occasional game night. Foosball and darts are also good for family competitions and with Seasons can help to entertain the family when they start to get a bit of "cabin fever". And while I like Brindleton Bay, Windenburg is absolutely gorgeous, and probably even more so in the snow. B)
