Should you decide at some point you want to return to using mods, do make certain the mods have all been updated to accommodate the new packs. I have the latest two packs, Lovestruck and Life & Death. Haven't played too deeply with either of them, so far. But I am also knee-deep in a particular storyline, of which I write and share. Lovestruck, so far, is fun. I do play on a new gaming laptop, however. I'm not noticing some of the problems (bugs) others report.
Go ahead and jump back in. We'll put a ladder on the poolside so you can climb back out if you find the game is still too buggy for you. I can imagine the frustration. I had an interesting, weird thing occur, recently, that was a leftover from Cottage Living. (Got that one on release, so how the bug missed me then, I'll never know.) There was a fix for it, and things have been great ever since. You may find playing vanilla suits your style of play better, who knows? The idea is to have fun.
