I had a mermaid die and yes they keep their fins and swim around just like they used to. Don't know about the powers, they were not in my family at the time
I will have to play my mermaid ghost again because my mermaid-ghost had her tailfin cut off just like ghost do not have feet. This is really odd, but positive because that tail-less mermaid looked so sad.
