Glitch with detective clues, makes arresting the right suspect impossible

So I'm playing the detective career in GTW and my Sim started gathering clues together to call an APB and go arrest the suspect. Her clues were that the suspect was both a teen and possessed the Ambitious trait, but this is impossible, since teens cannot have the Ambitious trait.

I sent her to the APB thing anyway and tried to do my best with what I had to work with. The clues were

1. female
2. teen
3. wearing tank top
4. wearing skirt
5. ambitious trait
6. blonde

Well the only blonde teenage female on that lot was not wearing a skirt or a tank top and she definitely didn't have the Ambitious trait because teens can't have that trait. I tried arresting her but because she didn't match all the criteria, my Sim took a hit to her job performance for making an unlawful arrest. There was no other Sim anywhere around who came close to matching the criteria at all, I nearly drove myself insane looking.

Now I'm stuck because as far as I know, I can't just quit the case and start a new one, nor can I make an arrest because there is no such Sim in the world matching all the criteria, it's impossible for a Sim to be a teen and possess the Ambitious trait (and no, I have no mods that alter traits whatsoever, I don't have any custom traits, either). Is there any way I can somehow scrap this case or start over or something? The only solution I've found is just choosing not to follow my Sim to work ever again so her job performance will increase by itself, but that's a terrible solution because it totally kills the point of the detective career and the GTW expansion all together.

I have a dumb question. If you quit your job and do it all over again do you lose your progress on your previous cases? I just ran into this bug and I don't really want to start my cases over from scratch.

  • My clues were:
    Female
    Shorts
    Tanktop
    Genius
    Grey hair

    My arrestee was:
    Male
    Slacks
    Jacket
(can't confirm or not the genius part)
    Black hair

Thanks for the help clues! :D
  • I am having this issue now. My guy was a senior detective (lvl 6), I hadn't had any issues with clues or arrests before. During this case the clues were:
Elder, Grey Hair, Art Lover, Wearing Jeans, Tank Top. (There was another one but I can't remember what it was.)
Put out the APB. Ended up at the Library. There was no one fitting the description in the Library or anywhere in the vicinity. (I checked the whole Willow Creek downtown area.) I started asking people if they had seen the suspect. No one could help. No one was looking shifty. So I went back to the Police Station. I added a couple more clues to the board. It didn't give me any new information, I put out the APB again.
I tried this three times with no luck.
I had my guy quit his career, and then get it again.
When he showed up for his first day back, the top task was to Interrogate the Suspect. Of course, there was no suspect since he had to start a new case, which I did. Took him to the crime scene and completed the tasks there. Returned to the police station and the tasks were the same as before, including Interrogate the Suspect.
Soooooooooo..... I took out my Mods folder. Repaired my game...
    No change.
Is there a way to reset the case? The career? Anything?!??!
    I'm bummed :s

I've just encountered this issue as well. I think part of the problem for me was using old clues on a new case. About to quit the career and start over, but my list of "clues" is spectacularly bazaar, so I thought I'd share the frustrations.

My APB is looking for a blonde teen female who is clumsy. And she's wearing a skirt and blouse. Easy enough. By the way, she's also self-assured. And wearing a jacket, nope, a tanktop. She's also a materialistic loner who has red hair? Oh, and she's insane. And wearing shorts. No. Slacks.

Yeah... I'd screenshot it, but can't post that madness yet.

It's like I'm Johnny English describing his first suspect after the crown jewels are stolen.

Using the CAS cheat in game also messes up if what they wear etc. is the correct Sim. If you have a hard time finding the right Sim, you can skip that day and go out on patrol, then go back to finding the suspect. But using CAS cheats in the game and or deleting Sims out of homeless list somehow messes up finding the right Sim. Don't ask me why it would be it does. Also, if you finish one case always delete your old clues before starting a new one.

I noticed I usually ran into this problem when I kept clues from an old case. I make sure I delete all old clues before getting a new case assignment.

I have also seen this issue when I had more than one Sim in the world in the detective Career. I usually make sure my detective is just starting a new case before I rotate to another Sim in that career.

I hope this makes sense and helps..lol
  • Hoo boy, my current APB is:

    Red Hair
    Female
    Teen
    Wearing Blouse
    Geek

I have arrested every teen in the world. I Have even snagged a few suspects who look nothing like the description because another sim pointed at them. No dice.

So far, my closest suspect is the stations lab tech... she's everything except the 'teen' part. She also never comes into work wearing uniform, and changes her outfit every day. Yesterday she was in rave gear, now she looks like a butler.

Shes mocking me. My sim will die before she catches her nemesis.
  • I'm having this issue too. So annoying! After a few days I sent my detective alone, I join and there is "interrogate suspect" in the tasks but there is no suspect to be found at the station. It lets me issue APB, so I go to find suspect and there is no one single sim at the place, so I can't arrest anyone. I tried the Shift+click cheat and went to the Detective Day Event and all it did was create a bigger mess. UGH! So I'll have to do the quit and cheat back in the job.

    > In real life, some of the "evidence" is irrelevant or incorrect, so I would think it should be that way in the Sims too! Plus, what about Cold Cases? Our sims should be able to drop a case and pick it up sometime later, with some little bonus for clearing a cold case :D

Totally agree with that, it'd be nice.
