I didn't want to say because there's this whole story, and bringing it up might overcomplicate things for everyone. But no, her husband dead. He was killed by the Sims in Black because he was going to expose certain secrets about StrangerVille. Despite the government claiming his death was an accident, Pepper knows his death is suspicious. She uses her books to drop hints about the mystery to the public.
