Goddess or Mortal?

I swear, I don't just make threads asking for help deciding things. But I really can't decide where to go with this story and need help.

So in my game, spellcasters attend a church called the Magi Assembly. They can go there for magical training, contemplation, worship, weddings, etc. The Nightingales attend the church and host events, while also serving the church's leader and goddess, the Magi.

This is Conrad Kinross, who was the first Nightingale and the Magi's confidante. Rumor has it that he was kicked from the church because he got together with a non-occult sim, which is a grave indiscretion among the witch community. He and his twin sons are looked down upon by the magical community, who feel like he betrayed the Magi.

Except that's not true. He was actually the secret lover to the goddess, Magi Wispria. She is the mother of Conrad's children. Given the societal pressure to be an ethereal beacon of otherworldly perfection, her being with anyone would create a huge scandal. It's also against the rules of the church for her to have kids; she's so powerful, spreading her bloodline could create powerful offspring, which would put the power- (and status-)hungry magical community into chaos. People would be hounding her to have her in their lineage, or assassinate her kids to ensure no one gets the upper hand.

When Magi accidentally became pregnant, she and Conrad came to the decision that they had to stop the affair. Magi had the kids in secret, and Conrad took care of them. No one knows of the affair but them, not even the Nightingales or the twins.

This is where I need help. Originally, Conrad was going to be single for the rest of his days, and his family will go down in history as a Weasley-esque family of modest tree farmers and broom-crafters. But things got complicated when Conrad autonomously struck up a conversation with another sim at the church.

Pepper Stellar is a single mother, her husband died shortly before the birth of their son. She's the daughter of farm girls, but currently lives in Sulani as a modest writer. She visits the Assembly every Sunday with her family, and she often gives parenting advice to Conrad while she's there.

Now I'm stuck on where to go. Should I have Conrad throw caution to the wind, try to get back together with the goddess and throw the magical community into chaos and war? Should he find love with Pepper and live a normal, if charmed life? Or should I stick with my original plan and keep him on his own?

Would Magi permit him to find new partner?

would she be like ethereally cool about it in that " we werent meant to be" way and wish for his happiness

so the two could stay friends in secret even if he went with the commoner

Yeah. Magi wouldn't be happy, but she'd let it happen because it's for the best.

Their power should be controllable; it's more that things could easily go south if others wanted to exploit them. In my head, they'd seem like exceptionally powerful mages, but not as strong as their mother. People would probably assume their power is a fluke and they just have natural talent. Since they have low social status and lack of resources to train their abilities to the fullest, it'd be easy for them to get overlooked.
  • Go with Pepper, Magi already chose the church over Conrad and the children.
  • Pepper is the gentle, more romantic option and it doesn't sound as if choosing the Magi or the single life would lead him to a happy ending, though it depends on Conrad's nature.

As we don't yet know if a romantic relationship between Conrad and Pepper will actually happen, I think it's wise not to rush into it. If something does develop, I'd suggest going for it. The interest of his children seems paramount, and even if the secret is kept, eventually their power will perhaps grow as they grow up. That could possibly out them as being suspicious. But if no one is looking their way, the rest of the community would more likely see what they want to see (their goddess "untarnished" by scandal). I think Pepper could help provide that protection as well as love and support for the kids. But if the relationship doesn't happen, or if it does and seems too shallow to survive the long haul, I think it would be unfair to drag Pepper into it. Conrad may have to bear the consequences of his actions, even if it means sacrificing himself for the sake of his children.
  • It feels like getting with Pepper is not going to spice things up as much as getting with Magi would, and it also does not feel as romantic. To me, him and the goddess deciding to get back together despite all the obstacles in their way sounds way more romantic, even both of them staying simgle while still having feelings for each other seems better to me than him getting with the other girl :# But maybe they could pretend the kids are not hers to keep them safe, and probably would be safer to try and not have more kids :p
  • I say go with Pepper, with the addition that the kids get to find out their legacy once they grow up. Pepper sounds like she’d understand keeping the truth from the outside world and help Conrad if he decided to trust her. As for the kids, maybe they noticed how many secrets their parents were keeping, and they find the truth. Maybe the twins go to help their step-brother find out what happened to his father, and their powers change or grow stronger. Magi may even decide she wants a chance to know her kids, that the risk is worth it. Then the kids get to decide if they want to plunge the magical community into chaos and war, united as brothers or as rivals for power. Would they want to team up with their mother and rule together, or get revenge for their childhood in exile? Each of these kids has the makings of a Chosen One, whatever that would look like.

Conrad deserves a happy ending, but the story is too good to end in quiet oblivion.

My real answer is both. Hide the lineage of the children by being with Pepper but we know who the true love is. Risk one (or both) of the women getting jealous and making complicated demands that further amp up the pressure. Will one end up destroying the other? Could Pepper find out the truth and blackmail her husband or his lover? What would it drive her to do? Or if Magi decides she can't handle him being with another woman, will it make her sloppy in her duties or drive her to revenge, a force of unhinged, destructive power? Anything could happen! >:)

Update: I think you guys were wrong. At the wedding (at the Magi Assembly), sims autonomously kissed the bride and groom, almost resulting in romance bars. One of them was Magi's servant.

    Sims team, explain.
