I've noticed this as well, but in my game, Grim would show up at the gym in Oasis Springs. When I first saw him show up, I thought oh no who died? But no one died, he just enjoyed showing up at the gym. It was there several of my sims all got to know him pretty well and even became friends. There was even one time that I managed to include him in a group outing at a restaurant, but not anymore. :'(
