I'm pretty horrified by how cutesy the "ghosts" looked. Even less scary than the transparent-people ghosts. And they're like gnomes, where you have to appease them?
So everything has to be cutesified into oblivion, because of "Won't Somebody Think of the Children!?" and people who want nothing to do with the gameplay of various packs, buy them, then get mad when the packs deliver anything except more decorations and fashion stuff.
Hairstyles and fashion choices were of completely secondary importance in the original Sims game, and it was loved by everyone, not just one demographic, because it had surprises, humor, adult humor, excitement. But now the game seems to be increasingly catering to those who just want to use it as Fantasy Fashion Show and Better Homes and Gardens, and a lot of them do not even play the game. They don't even care about it as a game. To those players, it is, and should be, nothing more than a dollhouse to decorate and clothes to pick out and hairstyles and makeup to play with.
But that's not a life sim game at all. That's a valid interest to have, for those who do, but making the game more reflect that play and less reflect dynamic gameplay, chops off at least half the game's fanbase and identity.
