Have you ever tried to play a “homeless” Sim?

I did though she wasn't so much homeless as "outdoorsy" so I only gave her a tent and camping equipment on her home lot. Everything else she had to seek out elsewhere (random sims cooking at parks provided nutrition, she collected and sold things, made use of the gym facilities for bladder and hygiene). Now she lives in a very large home and works as an interstellar smuggler.
