Hmm, I tend to avoid cool and pastel colors on walls and furniture. I find that using plenty of windows is good for lighting. In a house I built myself, I use white or tan on the walls and wooden floor. Lights can be color changed - go for the warm tones. Pay attention to how many lights you put in a room as well. Ceiling height is affecting the lighting quality too - you have tall walls, you need lower hanging ceiling lights. Finally, indoor lighting also seems affected by neighborhood and season.
