Its funny how you have to baby and explain everything to this community and even then people take things out of context in order to bolster their claims or belittle to downplay a point.
What I am Saying is First of all Agnes is not uncomfortable in front of the camera. She's had years of experience representing the company not just in update videos but at massive Minecraft events. She is clearly emotional in this video because she cares a lot about the game and what people think and she knows she has to give everyone bad news and let down the community. And that, is the massive difference between a company that cares openly and engages with fans vs a company that never really took the time to actually be sincere and loving towards their audience.
Drake was not relieved of her position. She quit because she couldn't take it anymore. She came into her dream job at Maxis and within a few short months was literally thrown under the bus because not only was she expected to represent the Guru's and Maxis as a brand, she was expected to repair their reputation with the community. A reputation that Maxis never had because again, up until that point communication was so bad the only time we'd actually get to know anything was 2 weeks before a pack launched. (Its still that way). Then when Drake was just trying to do her job (Again with Maxis management up her you know what) she had to make statements to defend Maxis (which was her job) unfortunately, the situations those statements were made to defend, were indefensible because Maxis was entirely in the wrong.
Hence not only was she pressured from internally from inside Maxis and EA, the way her arm was twisted, it put her in a position where not only was she expected to uphold and defend bad decisions from Maxis, those same statements made the community hate her (Because they defended Maxis' bad decisions). It was a lose lose situation. Hence why the new community manager is so hush hush and never touches situations where PR is involved.. which kind of defeats the purpose of community manager.
Anyway. Point is, Maxis fails laughably in every possible regard to communicate even positive changes and announcements to the community. And have such a narrow minded focus when it comes to PR and engagement it can only be compared to what Hello Games did after No Mans Sky's disaster. But you know what? At least they had a reason to do that. They put their head down, fix issues, introduce new features and made the game they said they would make and more. Maxis has done neither in these past 7 years. In fact the changes they do make to the game, make the game even worse. But hey KiTs everyone! Those 4 letters alone shows you how tone deaf Maxis has become.
