I also got a lastException file when the issue started happening at level 5 of the career. I posted it in that thread about a month ago. They requested saves be submitted from mod/cc free games about a week ago but I changed save files a couple weeks ago and am not playing the career at the moment.
Someone in the thread did post they could get it to work if their sim was sitting on a toilet, lol.
