You can basically set any clothing to whatever category so this can lead to absurd results. If you set a coat as hot weather outfit your sims will consider it as such.
This does not bother me much but it would be nice if more clothes were flagged for hot weather. Somehow it feels as if they missed a lot of clothes when they picked hot and cold categories. And swimwear should have the same effect on hot weather as hot weather clothes.
I give my sims multiple cold weather outfits, one for indoors and one for outside. But as mentioned above the sims will mix them up and can still choose for wear coats and hats indoors.
A separate category for rain outfits would be nice. And realistic. Sims with rain outfits would take longer to get wet.
