I've only played a tiny bit so far cos I've been building. But I made a teen sim who ran away from home and is living in an empty container with no money and no food.
His first day he found a bar chair in the dumpster so he was able to afford a camp bed, some cushions to sit on and a lantern :)
The main thing I noticed is that townies absolutely love the dumpster.
