How Do I......

Get a sim to eat a bizarre fruit and become infected? So far, with any of my sims, when I click on the plants around the world they can only view them or take a pic of them. They can't harvest them. Or am I too early in the story yet?

My mystery solver hasn't even been to the lab. He will be going tomorrow in my game because it's a Saturday.
