Might have to try this out! It does seem strange that they would allow you to invite someone who can't possibly physically succeed, maybe it kinda gives guests an invisible temporary 'can climb anything' buff to ensure you can succeed.
The Behr and the Renegades were both marked played when they got their miraculous climbing skills, so it's not just townies. Every sim in a household that isn't the currently active one will succeed. Sorry for being unclear about this.
