How Do You Choose CC?

I haven't added any CC yet. Sometimes I have an idea for how I'd like to use it, but I never get around to it.

Usually some various factors come in when I download CC.

For the most part, I look for things like quality and if I'm going to use it and not just 'it'll look good one that one sim' and never use it again on anyone else. Don't like a lot of useless CC clutter I'll never use. Or from creators that rehash some of their former CC in texture or to make it look different I'll never use it again cause there's no point in having the thing with slight differences. Tend to go to the usual same creators because of high quality and not pushing out half baked creations with broken to unfinished meshes without proper weights to them.

There's no rhyme or reason to my cc downloads.

- sometimes I'm looking for a specific thing
- sometimes I'm adding stuff that I feel is missing in the game
- sometimes I'm looking for a specific design style and/or historical era for a save or household I have in mind
- sometimes I'm looking to replace older/poorer quality cc with something newer/better quality
- and sometimes I'm just in the mood to go on a cc hunting binge because I feel like collecting some new shinies

:)

Definitely when the mood strikes and Im looking for something particular. But there'll also be times where Im not really aiming to look for stuff, but I'll be browsing around Tumblr or Pinterest and something interesting will catch my eye. And then another thing will catch my eye and then another thing and before I know it, its been 2 hours since I fell into the rabbit hole of cc.

I’m usually looking for something specific that can’t be found in game. I’ll search for that kind of item and download things that catch my eye. Then I try them out in CAS and in play. Things that work stay. Anything else gets pulled out. If I like it well enough I’ll stick it in a mod/cc folder on my desktop, but I don’t leave it in the game to cause issues later. Same for mods.

I don’t use custom content in the sims 4. But, if I did I would go crazy adding things, especially children, toddler, and baby toys and furniture. I would get eyelashes, lots of hair…… oh, just a ton of things, and I would spend more time looking for CC than I spend in the game…. Lol!

Only piece of CC I ever downloaded was The Sims 2 College Adjuster which apparently no longer works (or I just can't find a working link for it anymore). I have store content for the Sims 3 that I downloaded into that game. I don't have any for Sims 4 and I only downloaded extra families from The Sims 1 website years ago.

I've upgraded from internet CC scavenger and raider to dedicated and loyal patreon follower of certain creators I like. I'm playing vanilla now, so I fight against the urge to check their patreon pages and tumblr websites, otherwise I know I will download a lot of new CC and I don't have a lot of space on my computer.

My problem is ..... I go in search of certain type of thing (jean shorts, sandals, sleepwear, etc) and I run across a CC creator I've never heard of before or haven't been to their tumblr/site in awhile, and then ................

I get lost and drop down the rabbit hole and end up D/L'ing EVERY.SINGLE.THING that appeals to me!

But before I put it in the game, I always open it up in S4S to check it out, because some of these creators (especially some hair creators that frankenmesh meshes by taking bits and pieces of this hair and combining them with that hair) and the hairs are HORRIBLE! Texture flickerig glitches, textures not lining up where, etc.

So then it gets deleted. If it happens on more than one hair for that particular created they are put on personal "Don't D/L their CC List"

I use a fair amount of cc for things I want but the game doesn't offer. I try to really personalize my sims to who I envision them to be. Few of my females have maxis match hair but they're not fully alpha. I try to maxis match as best I can or "blend" it to where there's enough of both they don't look out of place . My male sims all have maxis match hair. My male wardrobe has a lot of cc. I got bored with the few things I liked that the game offers. My females are almost always full cc.

I rarely focus on toddlers or children. The life span isn't long enough and I like the game options well enough. My teens through elders have the bulk of clothing and accessories. As for home items I do it by styles I like so full sets typically over clutter or they come with clutter

Then every few months I ditch cc I never use and make room for new items.
