I use the old school method of pen and notebook, and organize my screenshots into folders by families, generations, or challenges. Sometimes I'll put together a family tree from screenshots in a graphics program. I have a blog just for my Sims stuff, but I'm so slow about updating it because I'd rather be playing.
I don't sort mine as carefully, but once I feel the Screenshots in the game is full enough, I will add a number to the end of it and place it in a folder on my desktop, so I don't confuse myself. (I made a terrible mistake early on. Like the Cache file, I thought the Screenshots folder would create itself. WRONG). I snapped away and then wondered why they went nowhere. I earned the Dunce of the week, with that one. My Cantrell family now has 20 such files, plus the current one. I tend to recall which ones I have used for storytelling. If I took pictures of the other families, I would likely sort them similarly to what you do. When I divided myself between two different saves, I had those photos separate.
