How do you locate bad custom content and remove it?

I think we have all had bad custom content downloaded from time to time.  It usually looks like red and white geometric wrap in CAS.  I saw a dress today and the model looked like an abstract piece of art with red and white cubes all over the piece of clothing.  I am assuming I am missing some important part of the thing I downloaded.  Unfortunately you dont get a name or an identifying number for each downloaded item in your game so it is really hard to know which file(s) to remove to get rid of it.  Any body have an app which can go tru my game and locate these messed up files?

  • You can use Better Exceptions or Sims 4 Tray Importer to see what's on a Sim. These work quite differently, but their sites will have instructions. You can use Sims 4 Studio to view all your CC, and that will usually reveal this particular error. Finally, you can do vanilla and 50-50 testing of your Mods folder, which is good to learn how to do (especially before the next patch, which is for an EP and will undoubtedly break lots of stuff).
