How do you not get bored of a family?

I've found I just accept that I get bored. I find:
I love the struggle when sims are new and poor and skillless.
Then they succeed and reach high/top career and skills, so I say to myself 'ok have a kid', then they raise their kid perfectly with amazing achievements and skills, that kid grows up and then...
I'm bored of the original adults, I'm bored of the kid who as a teen can reach top of skills ladders without cheating.
So I move on, create another difficult scenario, and forget that family.
I wonder if there is a mod out there where skills must be used to be kept?
