I upgrade to more expensive things, yes, but I also am quite frugal: I keep repairing items instead of replacing them, I don't splash out on big things unless I'm actually renovating their dwelling...
I noticed this morning that my family's fortune was 312 000 Simolions. Last time I looked it as about 200 000 less, and I assumed that's where it still was. I haven't paid attention.
