I keep trying to play vampires and I have a great vampire family (2 adults, 2 kids) but I just don't know what to do with them since they can't go out in the sun! At the moment the mum paints and the dad crafts on the woodwork bench, and they go out to the vampire club at night and grab some unsuspecting townie to feed on. They have friendly spars, they do dark meditation and are prime vampires, but... there must be more to it? They don't seem very vampire-y, apart from the drinking of blood.So, how do you play yours?Also, why do the kids have a permanent parched moodlet when they cannot drink from sims?

There is so much more to vampires than what you have been experiencing. I would suggest you read all of the links on Carl's guide to find out what else vampires do, can do, and open up new stories for you with all their skills and weaknesses and other factors. For me, it depends on the vampire much like any other sim. However, I have found after playing them for a while that coffins are your friend. Vampires don't need to sleep but there is nothing preventing them from hibernating the day away in their coffins. So, if they aren't actively working on anything, I usually have them hibernate until nightfall and then head out for dancing and "drinks." When I do have them actively working on something, it's usually art, music, reading or chess. When I play the Vatores they end up playing a lot of chess.I imagine that this is an "in character" problem for vampires. They're immortal. They have a lot of time of their hands. So, for those who are active, I imagine then tend to obsess about something, master it and then move on to the next obsession. So, pick a skill or aspiration and work on mastering it... then pick the next one.

If I'm getting more involved or just see them out and about too much I would cheat their levels so they could have top tier sun protection at least. You can just work toward that but I almost always end up rotating throughout my game so just something to do and forget for me, while you're waiting you could give them a basement and put a good bit of things there you could say their missing out on when they can't leave.

I would have to look back to The Sims 2. :D I've tinkered with TS4 vampires, but have not played a vampire household extensively.In TS2 I had a vampire that would seek out the most attractive and interesting sims in the neighborhood and make them her familiars.She did not work. They did all the gardening, upgrading appliances, taking care of the property, etc, while she slept during the day. I had two at first. One slept at night, and the other slept during the day, so she could be awake with my vampire. They took care of her business and made money to get a larger house. She mostly partied and fed on the party goers, or her familiars. Oh, she also owned a Jazz club in TS2. It helped bring in money.She would eventually turn the familiars that had been with her the longest.They would eventually get their own house and grow the coven.I will eventually do this in The Sims 4 when my master save file is complete.I can see my vampire acquiring sims with various useful talents and admirable personalities and looks.I don't think he or she will be a day-walker since they will be very dependent on their familiars.I guess it's a vampire's version of rags to riches.Hmm, I will probably need a spellcaster that can put any rabid werewolves on ice.

Vampires are secondary characters in my current game, so I don’t actually play them until they come into my storyline, but if I did, I would probably have a vampire who is trying to live a normal life except for that pesky vampirism thing. He lives in suburbia, has a job, a mate, 2.5 kids but at night has to go hunting.

You read the Vampire lore books and gain a lot more skills related to vampirism. I think it's level 4 Vampire Lore. Then if you have a fish or a frog in your inventory you click on it and choose "create plasma pack" - it's a better quality plasma pack than the ones you buy so it fills more thirst.

Hmm...

When I do begin playing vamps, I do believe the first thing he or she will do is have one of their familiars become a spellcaster. So they can resurrected in case they do die of sun exposure. My vamp will be dependent on his or her familiars because of weakness to the sun.

Vlad seems to be doing well in my game though.
Does he have plot armor or something? Or is he a day walker?

I'm hoping to dl a vampires vs werewolves house I saw on YouTube and play a vampire that way!

Oh that's nice, I hadn't realised those plasma packs are more filling! Vampires can also extract plasma packs from cats and dogs if they use the surgery machine, but it's more work for the same plasma packs as with forgs and fishes (or at least it seemed like that when I tried it). Still it may be a nice option for some vampires.
