How do you use the obstacle course with your pet?

I tried this out a couple of times, it was ok, but not something I plan on doing again. The dogs ran the obstacle course just fine, and afterward got a popup that said how they did on a number scale. I just clicked on where I wanted them to start and they ran the whole course, they also had some training before I had them do this. That is all I can remember.
