Kyle kept hitting on Kevin, who was married to Andrew. He repeatedly asked Kevin out on dates, only to get rejected in a hilariously embarrassing fashion. Andrew, a jealous young man, fumed with rage whenever Kyle was around. Kevin and Kyle couldn't even remain friends without him demanding he be thrown out of the house.
Finally, the flirting got out of hand, and Kyle eventually charmed Kevin. A "romance" started. Feeling guilty for how much he had been flirting with Kyle, Kevin let him down easy and said he only wanted to be friends, and that he wasn't a home-wrecking, immoral slab of filth. He loved Andrew, dearly. He wasn't about to throw it all away for a one night stand with his best friend. Kyle seemed to understand. Or so I thought, anyway.
Kevin invited Kyle and several other friends to a group camping trip, along with his partner Andrew. Feeling a bit cheeky, he invited Andrew for some woo-hoo in the tent. Kyle spotted them, then quickly ran off to sob about the fact that Kevin was cheating on him.
Cheating. On HIM.
While this all amused me a great deal (especially watching Kyle dive onto a bed and pull blankets over him to cry in solitude), from a game's point of view, Kyle shouldn't have been crying over Kevin "cheating" on him. They were only friends, and Kevin was married. If anything, Kevin almost cheated on Andrew with Kyle before he shut that whole thing down. Not only did the game suggest that Kevin cheated on him, it also gave Kevin a shame moodlet! For what?! He didn't do anything wrong!
In other words, the reactions are broken and sometimes make no sense. From a storytelling standpoint, it's perfect. From a game standpoint? It's buggy.
The Sims is famous for the messed up romance/jealousy emotion since I can remember. In Sims 2 Don leaves Cassandra at the alter and even though she went on with her life - got married, had 3 kids, and eventually aged to elder - she still could not resist Kicking over Dons trash can every time she passed by his house, and then following that with a flaming bag of poo on the side walk - she was still red-faced angry and seething unrelentlessly no matter how many times I got her over it- she'd do the same thing everytime she walked by his house.
I mean 40 plus years lady - get over it... was my thoughts.
The Sims tends to have extremely over the top anger issues when it comes to love gone bad. I just find it easier to just avoid all that period as I know it will never be well again. Then there is of course Sims 4 where they hardly seem to notice at all most of the time. Which then angers ME! LOL. It's the Sims - what can we say?
Maybe one day - one of the future Sims series the devs will figure out how to program sims to get over some stuff and how to mourn the sad stuff proper like. But then again.... I doubt it.
