How I Almost Did Myself In . . .
I have a brand-new gaming laptop with Windows 11. I'm still learning how to navigate. I was able to place my backup copy of my now defunct save, Cantell, so all is not entirely lost. However, I didn't think to back up my Ancestral save at that time. Wasn't playing it much, to be fair to myself. Happily, the Mods folder for it did get saved. So, since it's been advised we play an alternate game save after the Patch over our main save, I'm inclined to start all over again. I hadn't gotten very far, game-play-wise, so that isn't that big of a deal. I'll likely spend the time remaking the worlds and building, since I have to recreate both starting families from scratch, this time.
However, when I went to slide that Mods folder into my new save folder, something went amiss. It appeared to have gone nowhere. I checked the trash, and there it was. So, I hit restore. Did it go where it came from? Yes, but the folder was EMPTY. Can I cry now? Happily, I spent a little time just yesterday downloading some additional 18th century stuff, including clothing and I found a highchair inspired by India, that is close to the look of an actual 18th Century highchair. Yes, they did have them then. Can I find the active cradle I'd found recently. No, sadly. But it's out there, I know it.
Well, as I was lamenting my huge goof, it dawned on me to have a look at some of the other flash drives I have. BINGO, one had a copy of the Mods folder I needed. Phew. And just like that I saved my own bacon. I then very carefully, slid the new cc into the existing subfiles and placed them all into the new Mods folder.
But, it still bothers me how I almost did myself in . . .
Please share your unfortunate game-altering moments.
