How I take my sim's photo's and make them family portraits

Hi there simmers. Since we got Growing together I felt my game needed more family portraits in their houses, but I am not a big fan of having mods in my game so had to try and do it with what the game offers, and I managed to do it as explained below in a spoiler under the pics I have made in game so far ;)

Spoiler

I have removed everything from the spoiler so that I can fix images, so all of it is below the spoiler, they seem to be broken in the new forums.

It is a bit of a big tutorial so please bare with me, I tried to make it very easy to explain.
You will need two things for this to work.

The family portrait (we got it a few years ago as a gift when installing the mobile sims game. It is available here if you missed out then ;) https://sims4studio.com/thread/13060/glassplumbob

and you need the basegame crystal clear digital camera. (You need to buy it and place it in your sim's inventory)

Once your family portrait frame is against the wall it will automatically display the household as it is. Mine is currently a mom with her infant. You can change the outfits and randomize the poses by selecting the portrait.

Once you have your desired pose and outfit then walk your sim over to the portrait, make sure they face the portrait. I usually have them walk past it so that they have to turn around to face it to walk closer. Once they are in position click on the camera in their inventory and select take photo. Your walls can be down, mine is only up because I need to show you round about where your sim should stand, they can stand back a bit more, but with the camera you have you can zoom out which helps.

It will look like this, you can select which size photo you would like, I selected large for this one

Once the photo's are taken, then go find a spot in the house you would like to place them.
You can place the photo on the wall by dragging it out from the inventory against the wall.

then select to add a frame and the colour

and wolla you have a nice pic of the family in a frame :)

You can also drag photo's into the photo frames we got with Mochino stuff and Growing together ;)

Hope this helps you all, happy simming <3

  • Great thread! I wanted to make some family portraits but without their pets and also wanted to include some with the grandparents. Using an idea I saw posted somewhere about transferring photos to households by saving a room with the photos, I saved my main family and both households with the grandparents and used them in a new game to create various portraits with all of them together, with his parents, with her parents, and the kids with their grandparents. So I could remove the pets and add and remove people from the household without screwing up my game save, just had to remember to pull the photos out of inventory and put them up on a wall before I deleted anyone who I was using to take pics. I also used the Ravasheen mod to do some scenic family portraits. Their daughter is a toddler now but I aged her back to infant to retroactively get a few with her and her grandparents. Then I saved the room that had all the photos up on the walls, loaded the room into the yard on their lot in my main game save and was able to pull all the photos from there. This is just a sampling of some of their pictures.

    Thank you for this tutorial!
It is really a wonderful addition when you don't use mods.
    This thread should get pinned.
I plan to move our couples temporarly in separate households to shoot couple pics <3

It is a huge pleasure, so happy you like it :) Have fun with your households and couple pics. Happy simming <3

  • I had been using Scumbumbo's Paint from Reference mod for all my album needs, but it's not a pose mod. I needed pose mods to get my sims to do what I wanted them to do and that was a pain sometimes. I didn't know about this(that you gave info on) until today. So basically this uses the household manager portraits but lets you select which poses. Sounds much easier. Glad you shared this.

aww I am so glad this is easier for you. I love having my sim's houses full of family portraits, I sure wish there was easier ways to do it, but for now I will do it using the family portrait to pose and take photo's :)

Hi all, I have edited my images in the thread, since they were broken links. I have also removed all the information from the spoiler so that I could edit those images as well. I hope things are a bit more clear now 🙃

  • Thanks for updating the picture. This should also work with the new early buyers reward from life and death. I will give this a try one of next times I play
