I've had one wedding and one vow renewal and this is what I noticed:
Bouquet toss does not seem to work at all. I have also read that elsewhere so I don't think it was just me. Other commands worked for me, the sims did as they were told, with the following caveats.
When I had a wedding, then ended that event and started a reception at the same venue, I repeatedly had guests head to the arch area to sit and "Attend wedding." They still got up and came to the toasts and the cake cutting when requested, but the walking back to the seats then turning around when I issued a command took up a lot of time. I don't think this is a consistent glitch, because I also had an Engagement Dinner and Family Gathering on lots with arches and didn't see this problem there. It may be because one of the sitting commands from the ceremony got stuck and stayed active for the next event? Anyway if they weren't right after each other at the same venue I may not have had that problem, but I haven't played enough to be sure of that yet.
Wedding venues are public lots and there will be random sims on the property, and some of them will respond to your command to sit for the ceremony. So I would make sure your wedding venue has at least 20 seats, even though the max number of guests is 15. Sims who can't find a seat may just stand in the aisle, which gets in the way of the wedding procession.
I have not figured out how to make sims who don't live in the household wear my chosen outfits as sims of honor or flower pals. You may have to edit them in Manage Households to have your chosen wedding party attire as their one formal outfit. And then remember to change it back before they show up to any other formal occasion. The bride and groom attire could be set in the planning screens for the wedding event only, this is not an option for vow renewal ceremonies.
You also cannot set a guest dress code for any wedding event except the wedding itself. So at the outdoor vow renewal it was half formal attire and half hot weather attire. Guests show up to the engagement dinner and bach party in party attire. I don't recall the family gathering having any dress code.
Some things are also not intuitive, so there are some things that work, but didn't work for me at first because I had to figure out how to do them as I went. In general I think I can work around the things above except for the bouquet toss which I'll just have to do without until they fix it. So I think it's worth it, for me, but everyone's frustration level is different.
