How is painting not fun??

My painter sim's fun bar keeps getting depleted, why is painting not considered a fun activity?? If playing chess is fun, painting should be too.

Just had to get that off my chest, it's so annoying.

  • Didn't think about a writer listening to a stereo to keep happy, that's very interesting.
I do remember having to remove the stereo while trying to achieve one of the goals. I think it was play video game for #hours while inspired or focused but she kept turning on the stereo and listening and getting happy!
  • I know plenty of people who haven't a creative bone in their body but still find painting fun. It might look like a preschooler painting but they enjoy it.

    What a weird set-up.
  • I had this problem. Painting isn't fun for Sims and I played several of my own households. with the correct traits. And fishing isn't fun, either. Well, if it's not fun for my Sim why would it be fun for me? The game is supposed to be about the Sim. And if something isn't fun for them to do why would I make them grind? Neat Sims enjoying cleaning in most of these games, but sloppy Sims don't so unless I want to torture the Sim then why would I waste my time on doing this activity. Food for thought, EA.
  • Definitely dependant on what traits you have, my sim levels their fun in no time by painting. Creative and art lover I think both will work.
  • I'm pretty creative but I only get enjoyment out of it when I am feeling inspired. Otherwise it feels like a chore. Does it matter if the sim is inspired to paint?

No, as someone just pointed out it seems they have to have the childish trait. One of my Sims is inspired all the time and has to stop so she can go have fun, which I think is plum. Nothing is a chore to me if it is something I want to do.
  • I wonder the reasoning behind it. Perhaps something to do with the fact that it now costs money to paint? To not make it such a draw that all the sims will go broke raising fun by painting?
    It's just so weird.

I agree. And why fishing isn't fun for a Sim who loves the outdoors...go figure. I mean what Sim then is supposed to gain fun from fishing if not the outdoors Sim? None of this game makes normal sense to me. Maybe some mixed up, half baked sense.
  • I've had sims with all kinds of traits and skill sets get fun from painting.... Until today. Only one sim in particular does not. Her traits are romantic and good. I think it's definitely a bug. ANOTHER bug.

To me it kind of makes sense - if you're not very good at art, you might not enjoy it. It could ruin your mood if you're aiming to be the next Leonardo Da Vinci, but it turns out you have the art skills of a toddler.

It doesn't make sense at all if your aspiration is literally to be a painter. Any sim with any trait that has ANYTHING to do with art/creativity should be able to have fun from it. Not just specifically "creative" sims. Otherwise you get this kind of contradictory behaviour.

Seriously, its like they put no thought into this game whatsoever.
