How many sims can you handle at once in a household?

Six is the absolute upper limit for what I feel is manageable, and even then it is only manageable, not enjoyable. At that point I am simply juggling needs and career or aspiration requirements. Three or four seems to be what provides me with the best balance of satisfaction and management.
