Unless I have a sim who needs the TV or computer for work, I prefer not to include it in households. I've found that you can sort of "train" sims to do other things that are more productive for my purposes (paint, garden, read).
One is though you need the computer for research a lot of different job related things. You need it to get info, buy meds, and other purchases. Sometimes my sims job has required the watch certain tv shows or use the computer to fine specific info. So both are actually needed.
I am glad I don't have issues with my sims using them on their own - because of how many times my sim could not get a promotion with out them. It may be okay when you use money cheats to buy and sell them at will- but I don't use cheats. In fact I just finally got my sim a pc for studying fitness tips online for her job which I put off all week getting the money up - and even though she was as far as one could be in the green on her promotion bar she did not get the promo until she studied those tips on the pc.- oxfordspliceNew Spectator

That's a good point. It kind of depends on what I need my sims to be doing. I don't use money cheats -- mostly my gameplay involves challenges where those things are forbidden. It's just frustrating for me when I have a TV or computer in the house and I want the sims to work on other things and all they want to do is troll teh forums. - Lately I’ve been thinking of not giving my Sims TVs or computers because it’s always their go-to thing to do. However I feel like they’ll just play a lot of mobile games if I take those away lol
- Kita5399New SpectatorThis is the closest choice for me. I play with full autonomy as well, but I micro manage my sims. I mostly use the tv for movie nights with friends, or stay home date night type of things. I also like using it for cooking skills for spouses/teens, since I usually only have one Sim do all the household cooking.
- Sometimes but a lot of my Sims prefer to get their fun up some other way so they don't immediately gravitate towards it too much. I mostly use it to generate moodlets to be honest. Or as a way to get friends together.
- LaBlue0314Rising ScoutMine don't watch it very often, usually when I first get the household started, and the welcome to the neighborhood, then after that they might watch a movie once in a while, to get their needs built up a little. My sims are pretty good about not going over board with it.
- AnmirlaSeasoned AdventurerIt's a constant source of club perk points. I don't do the traditional clubs. My family is it's own club and I rack up the points by doing normal every day things to take advantage of the perks.
It helps to combat things that annoy me like the fact that actions drop from the queue from leaving the lot (especially sleeping Sims when my Vamps go out at night) - rally the troops is always the first perk I get.
TV is good...TV is real good! "CommaSplice;c-16587916" wrote:
if you get them used to reading, they'll do that.
And maybe it's a "learned behavior". Most sims don't wash dishes automatically, but if you direct them to a few times, they pick up the habit.
