How often do you use powerful/extraneous objects?

Mostly the Weather Machine & Sleep Pods.
I like my seasons to last way longer than 28 sim days, I keep my sims in the same season as I'm in & in about 3 months of real life time by rotating back to the present day season at the end of the season with the Weather Machine.
As for the Sleep Pods, I mostly use them in my SiFi households.
