How often do you use powerful/extraneous objects?

I prefer a more realistic gameplay and think the game can be a little too easy to begin with so I don't like to use those items unless its a save where I don't care about playing with cheats. I have 2 saves currently. One for strictly building things and just playing around and one where I achievement hunt without cheats and play through some generations.
