How sneaky are merfolk?

I already know that if your sim asks a merfolk if they are a mermaid, 9 times out of 10 they will deny what they are. Just how sneaky are they about hiding their identity? This is the reason I ask. I have added another 8 or 9 merfolks (both male and female) to Sulani. Over half of them, I forget which ones are and are not merfolk. One day while out and about collecting seashells, one of my sims met another sim and they chatted a bit. Then later she decided to call him up and invite him over to her home, he came, and during the course of time, they both went swimming in the ocean. When he jumped into the water his legs were still there (no fishtail) and for the whole, they were swimming he looked like a totally normal human sim swimming around.

Now fast forward a few days later, this sim calls my sim up and tells her he can't get her out of his mind and ask her out to dinner. Afterward, they head back to my sim's home to finish up the date. My sim gets a little too tired and goes off to bed to sleep. Her date decides to go for a swim, but this time his tail shows and he swims around as a merfolk should. This sim does have the loner trait, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. At this point in time, my sim still does not know her new boyfriend's secret, and this got me to wondering just how sneaky are merfolk?

Here is a bonus picture of my sim having a close encounter with a great white.

I've had this happen too. One of the non-housed mermaids, I knew he was a mermaid but I didn't see the tail after just meeting him on a human sim and going in the water. In another save I had him move to the city with another sim and he's in the bathtub flipping his tail over the edge and soaking it up.

It's just the games way of not being intrusive for people that want more realistic play for those that don't want mermaids I think. I like it better than how they did vampires. Mermaids aren't in your face unless you the player choose them to be.

I don't know what happens in the long run though yet... like once you out a mermaid do they all show up?

Yep. If your Sim is / becomes a mermaid or if you out one they all display their tails after that.

Also they don't do their dolphin cry until after they display their real selfs or you blow the shell, forcing them to out themselves.

I'm uncertain. I just know that my Sim met the evil one can't even begin to pronounce her name, let alone spell it. He did ask her if she was a mermaid, after learning she was mean. She said yes. Now, she follows him around like a paparazzi, hiding in their midst. Did I mention he's a Global Superstar? :open_mouth:

    *Plays Jaws theme* Duunnn dunnn...

You know, they could have found some mermadic kelp in that time...

He was already a merfolk because I went to my library to see if he was one when I placed him in the game, he was. :)
