I found that lot traits can make things exciting. I'm currently playing a household of 8 and they have a variety of traits and personalities. Without lot traits, they still live relatively harmoniously and I find that kind of boring. I added Cursed,Volcanic Activity, and Mean lot traits and now it's a nonstop drama fest. Cursed lots will cause fires just about every time they cook, Volcanic Activity usually means a lava rock will hit the house while a kitchen fire is going on, and the mean traits will make even the nicest sims wake up in a bad mood. If they're tense after the fire they're not likely to be in a good mood again for a while.
Wow. At least the lot traits are doing something. I never get much satisfaction out of them, but then again I try to choose traits to help my Sims succeed. Maybe that's my problem. LOL
