How to get rid of the red romance bar (without mods or cheats)?

I have a couple that broke up and their romance bars are full-red. I have their friendship about 1/2 the way back up but is there any hope for them to get back together? I even made them a ridiculou...

I found out not to let the flirt or anything like that. Just do some fun things and talk a lot with each other. the bar will go down and you can then become friends again and it will lead to romance.
If you flirt now, it will do more harm and they will reject each other.
