How to have a child get 3 positive character value traits?

I find the easiest way to gain empathy is by volunteering with the family or playing with the doctor set. I believe emotional control is gained when the child writes in a journal (you can purchase the journal via the bookcase), plays an instrument or goes jogging, so you may have to wait until they age to teen to gain emotional control. Also, if the child is trolling the forums, get the parent to discipline the child/teen.
