I don't understand how I got an F

My sim is a model student. Homework done EVERY time. Term paper submitted. I did everything right. How did he get an F? The other two classes got an A+ as he should have. What gives? This is infuriating he has to take the class over again.

  • The only thing I can think of is that you may have submitted your term paper too early.

My first college sim did all his homework term papers, edited them and what not. But one of his subjects got a big F. The only variant is that I got him to complete the coursework far earlier than the rest of the subjects. He graduated without honors. I noticed after I submit term papers/presentations I cannot ask the profs for feedback on how I'm doing. Which was additional proof that submitting early may cause your sim to lose out on grade progression through homework after.

My second sim I had a strict routine. I did everything on Carlsims to getting good grades and one important extra: I ONLY submit term papers and presentations on the final day of the semester. She graduated with honors from every class being an A+ grade. (Wont attempt that again for awhile, it was grueling and she had no life from taking full on loads for each sem too.)
  • @mercuryfoam Thank you for this. Yes, I did have my sim submit his term paper early which if that is the reason for the F, that is RIDICULOUS in my opinion. However, he is now on his second term and I will be more aware of that and see how his grades are from here. Does it have to be the actual final day of the semester or the day before? If my sims have 3-4 classes of term papers and presentations to do, there is no way he has the time to do it all in one day before classes start at 8:00am unless I have him pull an all-nighter. lol

    Thank you!

Presentations and papers must be submitted before the cut off point of the semester (5 pm) but AFTER their final class. This allows the sim to get his final homework graded. For example, lets have a scenario where Friday is the end of the term. So if the classes for said subject are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, you can submit your paper after class on Thursday instead of Friday. However, if you have an exam on Friday, it's safer to submit your presentation/paper after said exam because funnily enough, your sim still hands in homework on exam days. If you turn in the term paper before your sim hands in his Friday homework, that homework won't be included in his grades. And you may potentially get an A/A- instead of A+.

Alternatively, if you get the 'You're a stellar student' (some variant like that, can't remember the exact message) in your prof's feedback, it means you're in the As already. So you can skip the weird 'handing in homework' on exam day part and just turn in your paper earlier.

Hope it all makes sense and I didn't pull you in too many directions!
  • The first sim I ever sent to university also failed one course in her second semester for no apparent reason, and had to stay for a fourth semester because of that. She, too, had done everything the course asked, except for that one time she showed up late for class because I forgot to watch the clock and the autonomous "go to class" action didn't come up for some reason. Failing the entire course for being late once seemed a little extreme, especially after she was caught handing in a plagiarised term paper in her first semester and still passed that course with a D, but it might very well have happened because she handed in the term paper too early. I didn't really pay attention to that back then, but I guess it makes sense that the university would be suspicious of a term paper that was written and submitted before classes even started.

She repeated the course in the third semester and passed, although "only" with a B-, the second worst passing grade she received apart from the aforementioned D. I suppose the subject just wasn't her thing.
  • I always do the papers and presentations as early as possible and submit them ASAP. I’ve never had a problem with it. Make sure you are also working on the appropriate skills for each class. If you’re too low in a skill, that can definitely lower your grade.
