Hey, don't sweat it. I'm scared of escalators. I live in a small town, with no escalators. I go on a trip, gradually start getting used to them. Then I'm not around them anymore and it starts all over, aargh. My traveling companion just kept commenting how they didn't understand why. Finally I said, "It's the same as you being afraid of mice, OK?!"
It's a totally normal reaction. I was in my late thirties when The Sims came out, and I was afraid of the Tragic Clown. It almost stopped me from playing the game until I found out what to do to get them to leave. Then I felt I could deal with it. Grimmy has a similar reaction for me. This game can be so immersive. But I watch You Tube videos of him coming, and that is not quite as affecting as in my own game. I do that over and over until I notice I'm not as scared. It's where I started for a form of Exposure Therapy. Getting to know Grimmy in small doses is another good idea. Do that over and over if you can manage it as well. Exposure Therapy is facing your fear in very small segments at first, starting with the least scary thing, and stopping if you feel overwhelmed, then resuming at a later point. If your fear is extreme, causing physical symptoms, it might be wise to attempt it only with a qualified therapist. Getting back to Grimmy, I always try to get death flowers for every Sim's inventory. It's just another tool to deal with his appearance. I'd only use it for those extremely weird deaths, if I really needed to. Just having them there helps, tho.
