I often cancel the holiday popups, too. Not because they are all bad, but I play on rotation and have limited time per household, so occasionally I want to focus on other stuff than annual holidays. The sad moodlet can be annoying, but I use UI Cheat Extension (mod) to simply click away the moodlet if it gets in the way.
You won't need to do the entire list of activities, though. Some of the activities are fairly quick (like holiday cheer), but if there are many sims in the house and each of them need to do the same things individually, it can become boring. Luckily, sims have individual wants regarding holidays and what it takes to succeed, it's often enough to do a couple activities to avoid the "awful" result. I prefer celebrating in a smaller household, though.
