Waaaay back in December 2014, a few short months after TS4's release, I was on this forum throwing in my twopence on threads regarding game satisfaction and so forth. In a thread (shut down after 278 pages!!!) I expressed my disappointment with TS4 game style, cartoon graphics and lack of properly usable commercial lots and said that I was putting my copy of TS4 into hiatus until it had been improved. Over a year later I decided to give TS4 another go, patched up the game, went on a huge CC downloading spree (gosh! CC creators have been busy!) and I'm just about ready to start playing. So I shake off the virtual dust and fire up the game and all seems to be well but then I click on the gallery just to see if there's anything there that takes my fancy and what do I get? A bunch of squares with red X's through them! I immediately log onto the forum and post a message of peevish complaint, then decide to try the game again - just in case because it's been so long since it was properly played and might need a bit of coaxing into life. Thankfully most of the community CC sputters into life so I think (hope) that, that glitch has resolved itself.What is the point of this rambling post I hear you ask? Simply this: Since December 2014 (when I was last here) no less than 4 SPs and 2 EPs have already been released - containing much of what should have already been included in the base game - or so I hear since I vowed not to spend another dime until TS4 was worth its nearly £50 (pre-order) price tag. After spending weeks gearing myself up to play a CC-laden TS4 I think I might just put it back on the shelf as I'm certainly not going to spend another 8 weeks going through all the CC I've downloaded to remove stuff that can only be used if I go out and spend about another £100 on EPs and SPs.Rant over, I shall now go back to disappointment. Normal service may now resume...

They should tag gallery content (and a good modder always tags their cc creations on the modding download site) with which expansion packs it was based on and therefore requires.

I think TS4 isn't very CC long-time compatible cuz there's loaaads of glitches from CC (and mods, especially) every time there's a new patch. I usually hang out in the bugs section and there's at least 3 new threads with CC and mods causing problems each day.

i look at it this way we are downloading stuff for free that the creator spent time and love to create for us and its our job to keep it updated when new patches come out!

Yes, but it's quite troublesome tho because of the patches. Back when with TS2, it wasn't that troublesome. I remember I had loads of CC and loved CC shopping. :P

I get the feeling Sims 4 is not as mod friendly as Sims 3 though I'm not a modder so I can't be sure. One obvious direction Maxis hasn't gone in yet but should is to make the Sims games more mod friendly, even design the game around mods and modding like Bethesda has done with Fallout and Elder Scrolls. A game like The Sims is perfect for modding. Yet it seems Maxis hasn't tapped into the vast potential of what mods can do, not only for players, but for increasing sales as well. I've always made the argument that modding INCREASES sales of store items and the game overall. If you see a cool island world mod, you'll be more likely to buy a "tropical SP" from Maxis to use with that mod. For some reason, Maxis is afraid that modders will compete with EA and hurt sales when the opposite is true.

Sims 4's patching history shows their disregard for modders and modding in general. Modders don't want to keep on updating their mods every few weeks, many just give up and abandon the mod. Maxis should tap into this gold mine right under their noses in my opinion.

I don't have an issue with CC - I love it! In fact, if it weren't for all the fabulous CC that modders create I probably wouldn't have stayed a Sims fan for so long and most likely not bought as many of the games so you're absolutely right azxcvbnm321, modders most certainly increase sales! In fact, the only thing prompting me to buy TS4 EPs etc. is the great CC I've found that states it needs XYZ expansion/stuff pack etc. I just feel niggled that EA have been greedy enough to hold back stuff they should've put in the base game - especially the premium versions just so they can squeeze more money out of sim-addicts (like me) by putting it into SPs etc. Right now I feel like they're no better than dope pushers and while I can afford to buy the extras, I wonder what simmers who can't afford the plethora of EPs, SPs, GPs do? :/

I don't feel they're akin to dope pushers at all. :( That's a rather unfair assertion and comparison.
All SPs, GPs, and EPs are optional. I can't afford a yacht, but that hardly means the manufacturers of it are somehow bad people who are purposefully attempting to keep me down. lol

Do what everyone else with a limited budget does, catch it on sale or don't buy it. Very few people in life have an endless supply of money... we all have to prioritize our purchases.

There are many reviewers and simmers who also offer giveaways of the game content so that simmers can pick up the games for free. SimGuruDaniel just gave away a GT code on twitter recently and I believe Simified was preparing to host a Movie SP giveaway too. The forums also have threads in them where simmers gave away content just to be kind and share their favorite packs. The opportunity is there, but you have to take the initiative to stay informed and to act on it!
