My sim can already perform magic with the voodoo doll. I can see the appeal of magic as an equivalent to vampire powers, where you have to raise your magic rank to gain points to unlock new magic powers. But I can also see the appeal of having magic be a skill (or a set of skills) that anybody can learn, so long as they have the skills and the right items in their inventory.
The big advantage to skill based magic over lifestate based magic is that it keeps the lifestate issue a lot simpler. Instead of having to work out rules for hybrid werewolf alien witches, the magic part is easy to apply to anybody who ranks up the skill.
This this this. I already have a witchy character, skilled in herbalism/mixology/vampire lore, and now that she's getting curses on top of the voodoo doll I'm pretty happy about things.
I mean I would still take a Witches GP of course. But still.
