- Yeah, some of us old simmers are already kind of done buying the game all over again
so making base free at least lets us try it out before we buy into it
= probably more likely to just try it out and then get stuck playing oops
then again it does make me worry about what they are going to make money out of instead with base being free
= advertisements? micro transactions? super expensive packs? limited content/other mobile nonsense? time will tell
I'll expect the worst until proven otherwise, just in case. - FriendlySimmersSeasoned Rookiei do not mind free game the only thing that bugs me as a player is the multiplayer part i went to keep my game single play and offline?
- Sara1010pRising RookieIt being free will at least tempt me to try it. Greatest way to see if you like something is to try it and this way there will be no buyers remorse if I don't like it.
- rjssimNew ScoutI have to agree. Also, I like how they said they will implement weather etc into the base game at no cost. I'll never stop playing TS4, but I'm interested in TS5, much more than what I've seen of the competitors. Perhaps I will be able to create a new sim story alongside what I'm doing now with TS4. I'm cheering for you, Maxis, don't let me down! JK, lol! I wish them the best of luck on TS5. I say take all the time they need to make TS5 an excellent game and highly detailed and beautiful looking sims.
- ripgiselaNew SpectatorI think it's a smart move financially to attract more players but not necessarily for the quality of the game. Game companies often use the game being free to justify lots of bugs and missing content (and they've already admitted that the base game will be added to over time because it will be missing features to start). I'd rather pay 40$ and get a fuller experience.

Agreed. A lot of it is about quick money now and not the quality of the product. EA has shown this time and time again with so many of their games. - Llandros2012Seasoned RookieNothing is ever truly free - infants were a 'free' update to the Sims 4 but they were arguably the most boring lifestate available unless you shell out $40 for the Growing Together EP so that you can have milestones, events, playmats, changing tables, more furniture and clothing, etc. But without the EP, pretty much just watch and listen to them fuss and cry until you age them up to the next stage.
You will spend more money on a 'free' game than you can possibly imagine. - Redrogue60New HotshotThe game will not be free to play. That is just a marketing tactic. Everything you will ever want will be behind a paywall unless all you will ever want to play is the Base. In order to make this game half the game all of the past games were you are going to have to shell out $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I predict this is going to be the most expensive Sims game ever. Because they already know what is a draw in terms of game play and build/buy. I also think the multiplayer is going to be more a bother than fun. I already play other MMOs and the worst thing about the game are the other players. Combine that with EA's continued lack of accountability when they muck up a game (Looking at you Sims Mobile, they are fixing to have some legal issues methinks) and this is going to be monstrous. Then we will likely get the introduction of a facet of gaming we typically don't experience in the Sims, lag.
- Free to play if you pay $4.99 a month for an EA Play subscription.

That is not going happen
They confirmed this game will be free for everyone and not subscription base.
