If I purchase 'Laundry Day' will all of my sims be required to do laundry? Will it be optional or something that all households need to be involved in once purchased?

If you place any of the washing/drying items (like the washer/dryer or the wash tub or clothesline) or the hampers that came with the pack, you'll have to do laundry to avoid clothing piles. They didn't do anything to change the decor hampers that came with base game or the Parenthood pack, so if you just want hampers for decor you can use those.
This is why I didn't buy it. If I did buy it, I would make a laundrymat.
