I'm gonna own the Sylvan Glade...I hope

Hi, simmers!

A while ago, I built a cottage on the Sylvan Glade lot using free build and my elven Sim was there almost 24/7 but still technically lived on her empty lot.
I recently got a mod that lets me edit the lot type for special venues. I changed the Sylvan Glade lot to residential. Now, I can't move my Sim there because it's not available on the map. However, MCCC automatically moves households into empty lots. So all I have to do is wait for a household to move in, manage households to add my Sim in, and delete the extra townies.

Whatcha think? Is it a good idea? Or is my logic flawed? 🤔

  • How are you going to play them if you can't select the household from map view?
  • I would be careful with it, seeing as the lot was not meant to be lived on. Make a copy of your sim just in case!

Oh that's a good question! I never thought about that before. ?
When I'm playing one household (1) and shift click on a member of a different played household (2) to modify in CAS, when I exit CAS I'm playing with the second household (2) instead of the one I was originally playing as (1).
So maybe I make a secondary household, start playing as them, summon a member of my elven household, shift click on them, and enter then exit CAS. It's tedious, but might work.

    I definitely will! ?
  • I think it's possible to play a play a sim if they are on an ownd retail/restaurant lot. You just need to save them on that lot when you exit the game and when you return they should still be on that lot.

I think I don't have the right expansion pack for that, unfortunately.

Question: Does anyone know how to identify a specific save file in order to make a copy of it?

When in the main screen, select “load game”. It will bring up a menu of all your saves. Somewhere in there, by a hover over or a details button is the name of the file for the specific save.

  • Another way to identify a save is to save the game, then exit the game or switch windows to your file manager. Look in your folder of saves and find the one with the current time and date for "last modified".
  • It worked, I think! :DD

It kind of locked up/glitched/took a while to load at first when I transferred my sims over to the household that moved in, though. The cottage was missing--it was just a hole to nowhere--and my bar of household members wasn't there. That lasted about a thirty seconds, long enough for me to think that I broke the game, but it eventually sorted itself out.

One issue is that I can't edit the lot without enabling free build. Another is that my household inventory is unavailable. And finally, repairman don't do anything and I didn't have to option to repair myself, at least with the one particular computer. Aside from those things, and only being able to play as this household by first playing as a different one, everything seems to be working satisfactory.
