Ok I know this isn't going to be popular but I REALLY REALLY REALLY do NOT want an open world. In the sims 3 it was amazing but it killed the game. Almost immediately crashes and routing issues became far too common and the amount of time it took to get ANYWHERE was insane. As the game progressed it would steadily become unplayable and I would need to start an entirely new game within a generation or two. Now I would love to be able to take boats out on the water, to go anywhere in town, and to do anything at all but the thing is I DON'T want it at the cost of my ability to play the game. I think there are more important things to have added and I don't mind the loading screens - they're faster than in sims 2 or sims 3, I have no need to pick up a book or just go and do something for half an hour or more while I wait. What I would love instead is a customisable world. I want to delete the toilets, decorate the areas around my lot, and improve the neighborhoods my sims can wander around in however I want to. What I don't want is a world that progressively makes it to where I can't play the game as time goes on. The sims 3 was the buggiest game in the series as well as the most boring to play without mods. I feel that the open world was part of that as it needed more time spent on it. I don't want my Sims 4 to break - it's my favorite and I love it.

Sims 4 is never gonna become open world like Sims 3. It's just not capable of doing that so it's not something you should worry about.

There will be no open worlds for Sims 4. The mechanism has to be built into the engine from the ground up. You would not be able to backend it into the game now. Open World might happen for Sims 5, if there ever is a Sims 5, but that ship has sailed for Sims 4.

I would not expect open world to happen for Sim 4 now or ever but just because certain tiers of computers could not handle open world does not mean all computers suffered the same fate in Sims 3. Looking at how times has changed and so has technology, I do not believe in blanket punishment in which I looked at Sim 4 in which to me was done. I loved the open world for it was new however, EA/Maxis for some did not know to master it or tweak it. A lot of developers errors was made in Sim 3 that was not addressed in the way it should have been and I look at Sim City 2013 as an example they could have done wonders with that game but it was full of hype and not a lot of truth. I look at Sims 4 the same way except it is a little better than Sim City 2013. If Sim 5 does come about I hope to see an open world and no gimping. Another thing loading screens no matter how fast it is for me breaks the immersion I have with the game and also how often you hit those loading screens.

The removal of the open world was a poor choice for Sims 4, even just having open neighborhoods would breathe life into them. However that choice was set in stone a long time ago and isn’t going to change so there is no point in worrying about it now. If you are concerned with any potential future games then it’s best to make sure you are playing on capable hardware (capable does not mean expensive, or “gaming” hardware), which would have been my advice to you for Sims 3 as well.

I don't think it's very likely Sims 4 will become open world, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Sims 4 is never gonna become open world like Sims 3. It's just not capable of doing that so it's not something you should worry about.

As everyone is saying, I'd be very surprised if open world came to Sims 4. I don't think the engine is capable of it and I think it's something that would need to be there from the start.

I know people had issues with open world and many used mods to cope with it, but do you really think that anyone out there is asking for an open world that causes crashes, lag etc (if that's what truly caused those things)? I would think people would want an open world that was optimised properly and caused little to no issues.

But as others are saying, I wouldn't worry about it for TS4.

It seems to me to be a very long shot. If they would want to implement an open world in Sims 4, it means they would need to rewrite the entire code and that would take a lot of time and money. EA is not that kind of company. Personally speaking, I never suffered any lag or another issue because of the open world. In fact I loved that feature and I hope to see it back if they can work out to improve it.

I'm worried about posts like this. Not because I want open world in Sims 4, that will never happen anyway, but because it sends a message to EA that it's perfectly ok to never invest in something awesome like an open world in any Sims game ever again. I can't protest against that strongly enough.

Travelling took time? Completely comparable to loading screens (I tested this) with one difference: you can follow your sim instead of staring at an empty loading screen. And if you play more than one sim you don't even have to wait, you can play with one till the other has arrived.

Loading screens in Sims 3 last so long that you have to read a book to kill time? There are no loading screens. There is one at the beginning and that one lasts a couple of minutes for Sims 3 players now, thanks to improved computers (in my case 4, I timed it).
Sims 3 is exactly as buggy as Sims 4 appears to be (just take a look around here) and the most absorbing and awesome to play, with or without mods (I've done both). I feel that open world plays a huge part in that because it draws you into a world that comes closest to a real world and approaches a real world experience the best.
Don't worry. Sims 4 will always have its tiny uncustomizable neighborhoods based world system with loading screens everywhere and uncontrollable sims in your active family constantly, doing absolutely nothing as time passes by. And no transportation but instant teleportation. Enjoy it while playing Sims 4, I pray they'll come to their senses when creating a Sims 5.

I agree with this post, I rather have one loading screen versus multiple loading screens. :)

I don't think you have to worry about open world coming to the Sims 4 either as many have said.
I'd hope there was a way to opt out if they tried open neighborhoods with the current game actually. I don't want the lag that this could cause personally.. to have that much loaded in at once. I do hope that for future sims games if they attempt an open world or open neighborhood it's built in a way that it remains playable through the life and added DLC of that iteration. I'm glad I have a game in Sims 4 that I love and that works well for me because I will be on the fence watching (and not buying) if another open world game does come out. I'll need assurance it will work long term for me.
