I doubt Sims 4 will ever have open world. However, if and when they do SIms 5, I hope they rethink it and bring back open worlds.I still play the sims 3 because I feel I can be more creative with the open world concept. And my laptop isn't the best.
My computer can run Sims 3 (for the most part with some minor lag whenever I zoom in/out), but I'm still annoyed at not getting much townies around.
Since this is the only open world for Sims, it has not left a great impression on me, so that is why I'm wary of the devs going that open world route again. It needs to be done really well and provide my much-needed populated lots. I haven't played Sims 3 for a few reasons, and this (the sparse community lots and sparse festivals) is the major one that made me break down in tears and exit my sims 3 game often.
Sims 3 has beautiful (GORGEOUS) worlds, sure... But what is a beautiful world to me if my sims can't find other sims to interact with? I care more about gameplay than beauty. Sims socializing and interacting with each other is MAJOR part of my gameplay.
I hope programming is done better next time around. And quality control of bugs as well, of course.
When I send sims to a lot there are enough sims for them to interact with, because the game has a system where sims are drawn to places where you order your sim to go. How many sims depends on your processor (for me it’s up to ten most of the time). Those sims are all socializing or doing other things (depending on what the lot has to offer). I’m really not exaggerating when I say that a Sims 3 community lot feels more lively to me than a Sims 4 community lot. In Sims 4 there are way more sims, but for me it’s not automatically a question of the more the merrier. It’s what they are doing and in my Sims 4 game they seem way more ‘living in a bubble’. Because I can’t see who they are talking to (they look like those people irl you see passing by who seem to be talking to themselves and when you look closely they appear to have earbuds and they’re having a phone conversation) and quite often they just stand there doing nothing at all. Or they are dancing, with themselves.
Point here: the abandoned lot problem Sims 3 had for people is definitely something they can work on and improve. It’s not a given where the subject ‘open world’ is concerned.
@JoAnne65 , I’ve asked on the Sims 3 forums for advice on getting sims to populate the festival lots, and it sounds like Island Paradise has a ghost festival lot and maybe has too many lots which spread out the Sims. I’m going to try re-arranging the lots or get rid of some lots and replace that weird festival lot with another type of lot, and see how it goes. Someone else recommended me a mod that increases the amount of Sims on a lot as well. Let’s hope one or more of those solutions work!
But, yeah, I get what you are saying. I just feel differently. We’ll see how the next game works. In the meantime, I’ll be trying to fix my Sims 3 lot problems.
I hope the Sims 5 has stuff from Sims 2. Even when I enjoyed Sims 3, I missed the personalities and details from Sims 2.
